About the Artist

Tealia Ellis Ritter is an American photographer born in Illinois, who now lives and works in rural Connecticut. Ellis Ritter views photography as an explorative process, examining family and photography's relationship to memory. Her images of family often give rise to abstract work touching on the universal themes of life, death, longing and fragility. Ellis Ritter utilizes layering of disparate time and place as a way of conceptualizing the ever evolving formulation of memory.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, most recently by Aperture, The New Yorker, at PRC: Exposure, on Women in Photography, by the Corcoran Gallery of Art, at Catherine Edelman Gallery, by Taschen NYC and at Humble Arts '31 Under 31' exhibition. Her work has also appeared in many publications, including The Magenta Foundation’s Top 100 US Photographers, The London Daily Telegraph, Stella Magazine, Marie Claire and The Financial Times of London.
